Place Mat Project
You will make a place mat to be part of the harvest supper. Your place mat will have to be researched in order to get a good grade. Choose a plant that is edible and available so as to bring in a dish to share. The plant must be part of the culture of your ancestral country. You will have to hand draw all of the pictures and print the poems. You will use a cool tool to do this (We will make this in class). All work will be fine tipped for the final draft. You will NOT color this until after the harvest supper as it will be for kids to color at the tables. A time line will be included to make sure you get all your research and drawing done by October 15th! The Harvest Dinner will be October 22nd this year.

1. There must be a 1 ½ inch boarder with some drawing that represents your edible plant. The drawing goes around the whole border. The drawings do not have to be the same all the way around. You need to make at least 3 different pics on the border.

2. Your chosen country's name is in a predominent place on the mat.

3. The center of the mat must have a beautiful drawing of the plant you have chosen. It should be the whole growth. So if you choose an apple, you must draw the tree. Then you must have the scientific name and the common name of the species.

4. The corners will contain a QR code of the recipe, a symbol of your country’s Harvest Celebration, a picture of a kitchen tool that is used to make the dish, and a picture of the actual finished dish.

5. You must include a cinquain and a haiku. One poem about your plant and one poem about the harvest celebration. This could be about activities, clothing, music, or dance.

6. You will include, near the center drawing, one picture for each poem.
